Anton Stursa

Anton Gottlieb Stursa (born March 20, 1902 in Vienna ; † March 19, 1965 ibid) was an Austrian commercial artist, painter and amateur magician .

Career

After finishing school, Anton Stursa trained as a graphic designer at the Vienna School of Applied Arts in 1920/21. 1925–1926 he studied with Streicher and Heidrich in Vienna. In 1938/39 he studied as a private student at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna in Carl Fahringer's master class . Stursa was buried at the Vienna Central Cemetery .

Act

Anton Stursa created book covers and illustrations for publishers Hubertus and Steffel in Vienna. In addition, he designed posters and advertising materials for companies as well as for artists and magicians. In the 1920s he met the Viennese magician and historian Ottokar Fischer , through whom he came to the art of magic. In 1937 Stursa won a competition for the design of the logo of the German magic association Magischer Zirkel von Deutschland . For his organ MAGIE , Stursa created covers and designed posters and bookplates for magicians . From 1955 to 1956 he headed the magic association Magischer Klub Wien . Anton Stursa designed numerous playing card backs for the Piatnik playing card factory.
