Karin Krieger
Karin Krieger (born October 17, 1958 in Berlin ) is a German literary translator .
Life
Karin Krieger completed a degree in Romance studies in Berlin, which she completed in 1981 with a diploma in Italian literature . She then worked as a translator for a press agency . In 1988 she began translating literary texts. She lives in Berlin.
Karin Krieger mainly translates narrative and essayistic texts from Italian and French . In the years 1999 to 2004, in order to protect her moral rights, she conducted a test case against Piper Verlag , after the Kriegers company had taken translations of Alessandro Baricco's works out of the trade due to fee disputes and replaced them with new translations; she won this trial in 2004 in the last instance before the Federal Court of Justice .
Karin Krieger has repeatedly received grants from the German Translation Fund . She is a member of the Association of German-Language Translators of Literary and Scientific Works , VdÜ.
Awards
- 2011–2013: Hieronymusring for special achievements in literary translation by the Association of German-Language Translators of Literary and Scientific Works, VdÜ. She passed this challenge on to Frank Heibert .
