Heilwig Jacob , born Heilwig Gagelmann (born December 24, 1957 in Klein Sisbek , Helmstedt district ) is a German painter. She lives and works in Hamburg.

Life

Heilwig Jacob came to Hamburg in 1975 and studied art from 1975 to 1976 at the School for Free Painting and Graphics in Hamburg, then from 1976 to 1982 at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts , with Claus Böhmler and guest lecturer Meret , among others Oppenheim .

plant

Heilwig Jacob deals with the phenomenon of sight and creates several levels of vision in her pictures and objects. To do this, she uses acrylic foils, canvas, mirrors and gauze, some of which she positions in several layers next to and on top of each other in such a way that the viewer experiences a new sense of space. The two-dimensionality is eliminated and the images are divided into lamellas to create three-dimensional objects. Drawings experience movement and dissolution in the mirror and connect virtually with the mirrored current location and every movement of the viewer.

reception

“Although the paintings have their places of origin in the title, Heilwig Jacob does not formulate their details by painting, but rather transfers space into surface and transfers the fleeting impression, the trigger for her painting, with abstract brushstrokes into another temporal dimension - into the time without a beginning and End, in the rhythm of infinite repetitions, to which the details fit. "

- Kathrin Langenohl : Forsythia behind the Frappant

"In Heilwig Jacob's work, it is explicitly seeing that creates states of tension in itself that make the memory an ambivalent place"
