Hamburg magic nights

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hamburg Magic Nights are an annual magic theater festival in Hamburg, which is about the artistic, theatrical implementation of magic . The Hamburg Magic Nights have been taking place regularly in autumn in selected Hamburg theaters since 2011. They are curated by the magician Wittus Witt . The relationship between magic and theater lies in showing people what is invisible to the eyes. It is boring to show in a theater what everyone can already see and what they can. Very often the truth is hidden; so also with the magician.

History of Hamburg magic

In 1899, the magic dealer Carl Willmann founded the world's first magic association in Hamburg, after having founded the world's first magic magazine, Die Zauberwelt , four years earlier .

After Willmann's magic association had dissolved when the magic magazine was discontinued in 1904, the Hamburg merchant Karl Schröder founded the Magic Circle of Germany , which is currently (2015) one of the three largest magic associations in the world.

From 1910 to 1968 one of the first magic shops existed in Hamburg, the Janos Bartl company .

History of magic theater

Since Ludwig Döbler , Johann Nepomuk Hofzinser and Jean Eugène Robert-Houdin , the art of magic has developed from a pure sequence of numbers to a theatrical art in which programs are presented in a dramatic way.

Wittus Witt has been building on this tradition with special magic theater festivals since 2006. He initially curated weekends at the Theater an der Ruhr for four years together with Roberto Ciulli , on each of which a magician presented a magic theater program. These festivals took place until 2010.

In 2011, Witt founded the Hamburg Magic Nights in Hamburg with a similar concept. The first two events were initially held in the private basement theater in Hamburg . In the third year, the venue was the Hall of Mirrors in the Museum of Art and Industry . The Magic Nights have been held in the Hamburger Sprachwerk theater since 2014 .
