Mario Angelo

Mario Angelo (born December 15, 1950 in Graz , † August 18, 2015 in Cologne ) was an Austrian author , screenwriter and director .

Life

Mario Angelo's literary path began at the age of 17 in his hometown of Graz (“high school puberty lyricist”). During his first experiments with the radio medium in the Styrian regional studio of the ORF , he discovered the possibilities of acoustic storytelling as an author of program contributions.

An invitation from WDR brought Angelo to Cologne in 1970, where he realized several hundred programs for German-language radio and television stations as radio plays and radio plays, features and documentaries, essays and feature articles, television theater productions and cultural programs. He was one of the main authors of the WDR radio formats " Radiothek " and " Kritisches Tagebuch ". In 1977 Angelo lived for several months in the Cologne satellite town of Chorweiler for his radio project "City without Memory", which he realized together with Frank Grützbach .

After researching the history of vaudeville, Angelo began to deal with the idea of ​​a vaudeville and circus in his own stage and ring work. The author and director wrote and staged shows for stage and television in which he brought together various types of performing arts in a multimedia way (" The Art of Deception " (1984), "World Without Gravity" (1986), "Magic Magic" (1986)). With his manege theater spectacle "Domino - Ein Circus", Mario Angelo realized a contemporary circus production without nostalgic borrowings in 1982.

In addition to his radio work, Angelo designed productions for the stage, arena and film on behalf of cultural institutions, show companies, advertising agencies and theaters as an author and director. For example, he staged the play "Mai two three" as a German cultural contribution for the 1992 World Exhibition in Seville; or in 1994 a nocturnal open-air production on the Main for the 1200th anniversary of Frankfurt. In Las Vegas he developed concepts for theme hotels and their shows.

As the director of the cabaret artist and chanson singer Tina Teubner , he worked with her on her solo programs "Nachtwut" (1998) and "Ich. Um just some to name" (2000), for Tina Teubner with the Westspitzenpreis, the Deutscher Kleinkunstpreis and the German Cabaret Prize was awarded.

Between 2001 and 2007 his three-hour audio / art / pieces were broadcast on Saturday afternoon on WDR cultural radio "WDR 3.pm by with Mario Angelo". 2009 created Angelo for a joint project with the composer and conductor Rupert Huber and the hip-hop duo Maeckes & Plan B a new translation and processing of by Robert Schumann set to music dramatic poem " Manfred " by Lord Byron . His concert radio play "Manfred - Herz Bauch Kopf" was performed under his direction in June 2009 with the WDR Rundfunkorchester Köln , the WDR Rundfunkchor Köln and an ensemble of actors with Markus Scheumann, Claude De Demo, Patrycia Ziółkowska in Cologne and Münster.
