The Puropoko Cave is located in the east of the island of Timor

Puropoko is a limestone cave in Suco Muapitine ( Lospalos administrative office , Lautém municipality ). The cave is 6.5 kilometers away from Ira Lalaro , the largest lake in the country.

The air temperature in the cave is 32 ° C. In it flows a brook, in whose bed numerous leeches live. There is also a large colony of bats and snakes that hunt the bats. A large number of cockroaches live on their excrement . The endemic flagellum spider species Sarax timorensis, described in 2019, was first found here .

Puropoko has so far been examined up to a boulder that blocks the further way. 153 meters following the stream are mapped. A further investigation also prevented a high level of carbon dioxide in the air. The stream flows underground towards the Ira Lalaro.
