Purrkur Pillnikk was an Icelandic punk band and was one of the most important Icelandic punk bands during the heyday of punk in Iceland in the early 80s.

Band history

The band was founded in March 1981 by school friends Einar Örn Benediktsson , Bragi Ólafsson, Friðrik Erlingsson and Ásgeir Ragnar Bragason.

style

The band's sound was determined by a very melodic kind of punk, besides the typical 3-chord sound, the jazzy bass of Bragi Ólafssons, Einar Örn's eccentric singing was one of the band's stylistic features. Everyday worries were dealt with lyrically, but a certain gloomy mood is also expressed in some of the songs. Eighteen months after their formation, the band split up in September 1982. Einar Örn then played together with Björk in the band KUKL before she founded the group The Sugarcubes together with Bragi Ólafsson and became internationally successful.
