founding

The band was formed in August 1983 when Ásmundur Jónsson from the then most important Icelandic record company Gramm wanted to form a group with all the avant-garde musicians of the time. Thus, the band was composed of Björk Guðmundsdóttir , who was the front woman of the punk band Tappi Tíkarrass , Einar Örn Benediktsson from Purrkur Pillnikk , Sigtryggur Baldursson and Guðlaugur Kristinn Óttarsson (called Godkrist ) from the band Þeyr , Einaraldensur Melax from Medúr and Birgir Arnúsa the band Spilafífl .

Publications

In December 1983 KUKL released the single Söngull with the B-side Pökn (fyrir byrjendur) . The title Söngull appeared in a modified form and in English under the name Dismembered on the album The Eye . This was launched in October 1984 on the Crass Records label . A video clip was also shot for the song Anna . In 1985 a European tour followed, in July of the same year the live album KUKL à Paris was released on September 14 , 1984 . The second studio album Holidays in Europe (The Naughty Nought) was released in January 1986, and there were videos for the songs France (A Mutual Thrill) and Outward Flight (Psalm 323) .

resolution

After the two studio albums, KUKL broke up in 1986. Björk, Einar Örn, Einar Melax and Sigtryggur founded the Sugarcubes (Icelandic: Sykurmolarnir ) that same year , together with Bragi Ólafsson as bassist and Friðrik Erlingsson as guitarist (later replaced by Þór Eldon).
