history

A first agreement between the partners was signed in December 2004. In March 2006 the establishment of the joint venture was agreed. Aluminum plant

The aluminum plant is located in Mesaieed , Al Wakra municipality , approximately 30 km south of Doha . It consists of four areas:

  • The primary aluminum is produced in two buildings, each 1,150 m long. In each of them there are two rows (English potlines ) with 176 steel tubs each (i.e. a total of 704) in which the aluminum is melted. The current used is 300 kA . 1.1 million tons of aluminum oxide are imported annually .
  • The anode factory produces approx. 300,000 t of anodes from petroleum coke and pitch every year , as around half a ton of anode material is used to produce one ton of aluminum. To this end, 223,000 t of petroleum coke and 50,000 t of pitch are imported annually.
  • The foundry produces around 625,000 t of aluminum products per year.
