Qian Xuan
Qian Xuan (Chinese 钱 选; * around 1235; † 1305 ) was a Chinese painter and poet from Zhejiang .
Life
He refused to serve the Mongol rulers of the Yuan Dynasty and was loyal to the Song , the previous dynasty. During the Southern Song Dynasty, he took the civil servant examination. When the Yuan conquered China in 1276, he gave up the civil service career. He lived withdrawn and occupied himself with painting and poetry. He became known as a member of a group of painters and writers, including Zhao Mengfu . His painting is contemplative and combines song realism with an archaic Tang style. Qian Xuan is known for his landscape, animal and flower painting.
