Qinzwissi Monastery
The Kintsvisi Monastery also Kinzwissi ( Georgian მონასტერი ყინწვისის ; q'ɪnt͡s'vɪsɪs mɔnɑst'ɛrɪ ) is a Georgian-orthodox , medieval convent in the Georgian region Shida Kartli , in the Kareli Municipality . It is around 10 kilometers from the eponymous village of Qinzwissi. Under the monastery building there is a large domed Saint Nicholas church (the main church), which is still almost intact today. It dates from the 13th century.
The domed church of Qinzwissi resembles the main church of the Georgian monastery Timotessubani and is made of brick. The plan of the church has a cross-in-square floor plan and an apse on the east side. The church has a high dome with twelve windows. The church has three entrance doors on the north, west and south sides. The interior walls are decorated with frescoes . The fresco representation of the so-called "Qinzwissier angel" ( Georgian ყინწყვისის ანგელოზი ) is well known. On the north wall there are also the representations of King Giorgi III. , Queen Tamar and her son Giorgi IV. Lascha .
In the complex of the monastery there are also the ruins of St. Mary's Church from the 13th century, a small medieval church and other monastic buildings.
