Qiu Yufang

Qiu Yufang ( Chinese  丘玉芳 , Pinyin Qiū Yùfāng , also: Chiu Yufang ; * 1949 in Jakarta , Indonesia ) is a Chinese badminton player .

Life

Qiu Yufang was born in Jakarta in 1949 as the daughter of an overseas Chinese who emigrated to Indonesia as a merchant in the 1930s . She comes from a Hakka family originally residing in Meixian , Guangdong Province , one of the numerous subgroups of the Han Chinese . In 1965 she won the Jakarta Municipal Youth Badminton Championship. In April of the following year, her father and her sister sent her back to China, where she was admitted to a badminton training camp in Fujian . In February 1972 she was transferred to Beijing and accepted into the national women's badminton team.

Career

Qiu Yufang won silver in women's doubles with Lin Yu Ya at the 1974 Asian Games . Four years later she won silver again in the same discipline, but this time with Cheng Huiming at her side. With the women's team, she won team gold at the same event. At the Badminton World Championship in 1978, she won silver in doubles with Cheng Huiming.
