Qostanai Minerals ( Russian Костанайские минералы ; English Kostanai Minerals ) is a mining company in Kazakhstan with headquarters in Shitiqara in the Qostanai region . It is the only company in Kazakhstan that extracts asbestos .

About 3,300 people are employed at Qostanai Minerals. The mining company's sales in the 2008 financial year were around 6.4 billion tenge , with a production volume of 230,000 tons of asbestos.

history

The company was founded on October 13, 1965. The first plant was opened this year. It was not until around two decades later in 1974 that a second plant for the production of asbestos was put into operation.

In May 1997, in agreement with the Kazakh government, it was decided to privatize the company. Qostanai Minerals was sold to a domestic investor. On January 20, 2004, the mining company was certified for production in accordance with the ISO 9001: 2000 quality management standard .
