Theresia Birkenhauer

Theresia Birkenhauer (born June 17, 1955 in Eikeloh , North Rhine-Westphalia , † November 6, 2006 in Berlin ) was a German theater scholar and dramaturge .

Life

Theresia Birkenhauer worked a. a. as a dramaturge under the directorship of Frank-Patrick Steckel at the Schauspielhaus Bochum . Here she also worked with Jürgen Gosch and Johannes Schütz. Then, in collaboration with the choreographer and director Reinhild Hoffmann and the composer Isabel Mundry, the music theater piece One Breath - The Odyssey was created . The commissioned composition was premiered in September 2005 at the Deutsche Oper Berlin .

She did her doctorate and habilitation at the Free University of Berlin , and has taken on numerous teaching activities, such as at the Free University of Berlin , the Karlsruhe University of Design and the University of Leipzig .

From 2002 to 2005 she was Professor of Modern German Literature with a focus on theater at the University of Hamburg and from 2005 until her death in November 2006, Professor of Theory and History of Theater at the University of the Arts in Berlin .

Her main research areas were: Else Lasker-Schüler , Heiner Müller , Hugo von Hofmannsthal , Friedrich Hölderlin , Maurice Maeterlinck , Cechov, Genet, Beckett, theater theory and theater and opera dramaturgy.

Her grave is in the old St.-Matthäus-Kirchhof in Berlin / Schöneberg, in Department D.
