Quadrille based on motifs from the opera "The Queen of Leon"

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The quadrille based on motifs from the opera “The Queen of Leon” is a quadrille by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 40). It was first performed on July 18, 1847 in Dommayers Casino in Vienna.

Remarks

The quadrille was compiled by Xavier Boisselot based on motifs from the opera Ne touchez pas à la rein (English title: The Queen of Leon ) . In Vienna, neither Boisselot's opera nor Strauss's Quadrille were well received. Even the use of the quadrille as an interlude music in the play The Sold Sleep by Karl Haffner did not change anything. The work fell through and was not published in print. An original orchestral version is also not preserved. The CD recording mentioned below was arranged by Christian Pollack on the basis of a preserved piano reduction.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 6 minutes and 26 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
