Wilhelminen Quadrille

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Wilhelminen Quadrille is a quadrille by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 37). It was first performed on February 10, 1847 in Dommayers Casino in Vienna.

Remarks

The work was written for a ball in Mardi Gras in 1847 and was premiered on that occasion. The quadrille was dedicated to Wilhelmine von Webersfeld, the wife of dance master Eduard Edler von Webersfeld (1812–1847). The work failed to achieve great success. As a result, it was rarely played, if at all, and was forgotten. This was also due to the large number of such works by the composer, which displaced each other from the concert programs. Finally, the scores for the orchestral version were also lost. The CD recording mentioned below is based on an arrangement based on the piano reduction by Professor Ludwig Babinski .

The playing time on the CD listed under itemization is 4 minutes and 50 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
