Quaiapen
Quaiapen († July 2, 1676 ) was sachem (" chief ") of the eastern Niantic .
Her parents are unknown, but her mother seems to have been a sister of the sachem of the Narraganset Canonicus and her brother was Ninigret of the sachem of the Niantic. As was common at the time, she was known by a variety of names, including Matantuck and Magnus . She was also called The Sunk Squaw and The Old Queen . The latter name comes from the fact that she became the wife of Mriksah , the sachem of the Narraganset. This name is also used to describe a fort in the vicinity of their work.
She died together with 171 faithful in a battle against the English in a swamp near Nipsachuck. Together with Mriksah, who must have been her cousin, she had the children Scuttop , Quequaquenuit and Quinimiquet. She is considered the best known of the female chiefs of the Narraganset.
