Quaid-e-Azam Trophy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Quaid-e-Azam Trophy is a national first-class cricket competition in Pakistan . In this competition, which has been held since the 1953/54 season, changing first-class teams take part over time. The competition is named after the founder of the state of Pakistan, Muhammad Ali Jinnah .

Teams

The teams that take part in this competition are exposed to high fluctuations over the course of the competition. In general, the Pakistani first-class teams can be divided into two categories: regional and departmental teams. The former represent individual districts or provinces of Pakistan , with Karachi and Lahore mostly providing two or three teams. Department teams represent companies and public institutions such as banks, the railways and the armed forces. So there were occasional seasons in which only one of the two categories of teams took part, but mostly there was a mix with varying proportions of these. At the same time, the President's Trophy took place up to the 2013/14 season , which is predominantly made up of departmental teams. For the 2019/20 season, the structure of Pakistani cricket was fundamentally revised and the number of teams reduced to six regional teams.
