Nancy DiNardo

Nancy J. DiNardo is an American politician and since January 2015 deputy chairman of the Democratic Party of Connecticut . Before that, from 2005 to January 2015, she was the first woman to hold the office of party chairman.

Life

DiNardo grew up in Trumbull with two older brothers. Her parents Peter R. DiNardo († 1989) and Josephine C. DiNardo (1919–2009) were active in state politics . Her father was on the Trumbull Police Commission . Her mother co-founded the Trumbull Democratic Federated Women's Club and served on the Democratic State Central Committee for 25 years .

DiNardo studied at Emmanuel College in Boston . After graduating there, she returned to her hometown to work as a teacher. Her first job took her to the Maplewood School in Bridgeport , where she taught first graders. At the same time, she was first elected to Trumbull Town Council in 1971 at the age of 21 .

In the following years she worked in the public sector and was a member of the Trumbull Board of Health , the Trumbull Finance Commission and the Trumbull Police Commission . When she retired in 2002, she was Director of Psychological Services for the Bridgeport Board of Education . Furthermore, she was for several decades chairman of the Trumbull Democratic Town Committee and was thus the local branch of the party in Trumbull.

Since 1998 she was a member of the Democratic State Central Committee . In 2002 she became the chairman of the party's finance committee. When the previous chairman of the Connecticut Democratic Party, George C. Jepsen , did not run for another term, DiNardo applied for his successor. In 2005, she was elected chairman of the Connecticut Democratic Party. DiNardo became the first woman in this office. In 2015, she refused to run again and instead applied for the office of deputy party chairman. The previous deputy chairman Nick Balletto became the new party chairman .

DiNardo is unmarried and has no children.
