Quar Basin

The Quar Basin is a lake basin in the Lasarev Sea off the Princess Martha Coast of Queen Maud Land in East Antarctica . It is located immediately north of the Quar Ice Shelf .
It has been named since 1997 at the suggestion of the surveyor and glaciologist Heinrich Hinze from the Alfred Wegener Institute based on the name of the neighboring ice shelf. Its namesake is Leslie Arthur Quar (1923–1951), radio mechanic and electrician for the Norwegian-British-Swedish Antarctic Expedition (1949–1952).
