Coat of arms of the Quaranta family

The Quaranta family is a Norman family from Salerno . The name Quaranta (forty in Italian) was derived from the 40 Norman knights who, returning from the crusade , liberated the city of Salerno before the siege of the Moors . This happened during the reign of Waimar IV in the 11th century. The family spread to Rome , Naples and Sicily .

A comprehensive genealogy of the family by an unknown 17th century author is kept in the Salerno State Archives. The Quaranta family holds the title of Baron von San Severino and is also represented in Germany. A family member is Chevalier Heinrich Baron di San Severino-Olbertz. He is a member of the Order of the Holy Sepulcher and Knight of the Order of St. Lazarus of Jerusalem.
