Quarnevalen is a traditional parade through Stockholm that has been held since 1910 . Today it takes place every three years in May and sees itself as a mixture of a Swedish parody of the Carnival in Rio and student sulk, but which also addresses serious issues, such as the Swedish submarine affair in 2005 .

The move is considered the largest student event in Europe with 1000–1500 active participants in around 100 groups and topics. It runs for a four-kilometer route through the city center and is lined with around 400,000 spectators. It takes about two hours to pass by.

The voluntary organizer Quarnevalsstaben , like the participants, is mainly made up of students mostly from Stockholm universities . The event is of a non-profit nature. Anyone can submit proposals for active participation, but only the most interesting and crazy ideas will be selected from them. Not all of the motif wagons, which are often assembled in an adventurous way, survive the move. There are always dance and music groups involved.
