The district park Mellenseestrasse is a park in the Berlin district of Friedrichsfelde in the Lichtenberg district . It was created after a daycare center was demolished and a previous children's playground with a splash pool and existing trees were included. It is the only park in the district with a water play area.

history

In Sewanviertel many are prefabricated -Wohnhäuser, between child care facilities, playgrounds, schools and recreational areas have already been planned and laid out. After German reunification , numerous families moved out of the apartments, daycare centers and schools were no longer needed so extensively. In 2006, a children's combination on Mellenseestrasse was demolished and the area should be re-used. The district office, residents' initiatives and a planning office jointly designed the concept for a conversion into a local recreation center with the working title of the Mellenseestrasse district park . With the help of EU funds and the Urban Redevelopment East program , a cross-generational park was created.

The eastern part of the complex has a triangular area and was designed under the motto beach . A call for proposals for names did not yield anything, so the district office decided to officially adopt the planning name.

The square trees in the western area of the park, including rare pagoda trees , cork oaks and native deciduous trees, have been transformed into a recreational area and planted with additional tall trees.

In 2016, the district park was expanded with a playground and football field . For this purpose, 90 trees in this park area had to be felled, 15 of which were protected by the Tree Protection Act. In order to replace the protected trees as required by law, 23 young deciduous trees (trunk diameter 18–20 centimeters) were planted on a nearby and previously unsealed parking area. The district park was thus given another access from Hönower Weg.

description

Paddling pool Mellenseestrasse, 1976

A paddling pool that used to exist here and was widely used (see picture) was given an elevated ring-shaped spray system made of stainless steel after 1990. The floor of the basin was broken up as part of the renovation work into a park and a smaller area was renewed. In 2015 the spray system had to be repaired.

The beach area on the surface of an approximately two meter high artificial hill consists of large sandy areas with mud tables that can be moistened with a hand pump. The hill is structured transversely with some stone seating.

Panorama from the southwest

Two green steps and a long bench provide space for adults accompanying the children.

The tree-lined park area is structurally clearly set apart with newly planted bushes, and it also offers seating.

There are fixed board game tables, table tennis tables and a fitness trail with six stations for all age groups along the central axis between the play and relaxation areas .

All entrances and paths in the park are designed to be barrier-free . A new type of surface material ( Santra ) was used to secure the paths , which has high abrasion resistance, good seepage properties and reduces the growth of moss, lichens or herbs.
