Quarto! is a strategy board game for two players.

history

It was conceived by the Swiss mathematician Blaise Muller (born August 28, 1948 in Peseux , Switzerland). 1985 Müller received for Quarto! the Concours International de Créateurs de Jeux de Société award . The game was released in 1991 by GiGamic , in 1994 by FX Schmid and The Great American Trading Company , in 1998 by Pressman Toy Corporation and in 2006 in Windows Live Messenger .

regulate

On a 4 × 4 playing field, 16 stones are placed, which differ in four properties:

  1. big or small;
  2. light or dark;
  3. square or round;
  4. with or without a hole.

These properties are distributed in such a way that there are no two identical stones. The players take turns choosing a stone that the opponent places on the board. The winner is whoever connects four stones with at least one matching property in a horizontal, vertical or diagonal row.

variants

  • The game idea can also be implemented with the cards of the game set if the cards with one expression of each property are sorted out.
  • In Windows Live Messenger from Microsoft , the game can also be played in an entertainment window under the "Games" category.
