Select Games cafeteria
Mensa Select Games is a game award for board , card and role-playing games that is awarded by the American section of the Mensa International Association. Each year this prize is awarded to five games in the Mind Games competition that are characterized by special intellectual challenges.
American Mensa also aims to stimulate the intellectual abilities of its members and to promote opportunities for intellectual and social exchange among one another. Therefore the selection of such games corresponds to this purpose. The winners are identified as such on packaging and in advertising, and book and game stores in the US often have a shelf of Mensa Select games.
history
Although the prize has existed since 1990, it has only been awarded quasi-democratically since 1996 . For the first six years, Mensa Select winners were selected by a committee in New York City . Since 1996, hundreds of cafeteria members have met annually at Mind Games, an event that takes place every year. Each player plays at least 30 of the games submitted by the game publishers. At the end of this meeting everyone chooses their favorites. The five most popular games will be named Mensa Select award winners. Since 2010, the German section of Mensa has also presented a similar award, the MinD game award .
In addition to the list of winners, there has been a recommendation list for Mensa since 2013, the Mensa Recommended Games .
