Canteen Select 1994

Slotter is a game for two or four players. It was released in the early 1970s by the Milton Bradley Company as Downfall in English and in 1977 as Slotter in German. Golden moved the game as Down Fall and Western Publishing in 1994 as Downfall . It has also been published under various other names in various other languages. After Hasbro took over MB , it is also marketed under the Hasbro label.

The aim of the game is to move a number of pieces in a predetermined order to the goal by turning pockets equipped with wheels.

construction

The game has two sides. It consists of five different sized wheels on each side, each with a different number of pockets (between one and five) on the circumference. Each pocket can hold one token. If pockets on two adjacent wheels are assigned to each other, one of the pieces contained in it slips into the next pocket following gravity. The wheels on both sides are connected to one another via a rigid axle; if a wheel is rotated, the corresponding wheel on the opposite side rotates with - including any opponent's pieces. The pockets of the wheels that belong together are offset from one another, which makes it difficult for a player to know where the opposing pockets and stones are.

As with other strategy games, the starting position is completely known to the players (like the line-up of pieces in chess). However, since each player can only see their own side of the game, as the game progresses, the opponent's options must be reduced by the visible rotations of the wheels or the audible transitions of the pieces from one wheel to the next. As a result, Slotter also has elements of a memory game.

Differences in the versions

The newer edition currently sold has different angles and contains two alternative half-wheels with a number of gaps reduced by one for positions four and five in the scope of delivery. If the opponents are of different strength, the difficulty can be increased by exchanging one or both half-wheels for one of the two players.

Rules of the game

When playing for two, each player receives two sets of pieces with the numbers one to five. In a four-player game, each player receives one set. The wheels are turned to the marked starting position before the game begins. The game is about being the first to move your five numbered tokens down by turning wheels that are gapped so that the tokens can fit. There are five different sized wheels. After the second wheel there is a fork where you have to decide whether you want to move the piece through wheel three or wheel four. It is important to make sure that you move the numbered pieces down in the correct order. If z. B. number three reaches the goal before number two, the round is lost for the player.
