Quassel IRC (short: Quassel ) is a graphical, distributed IRC client . It is published under the GPL for Linux and other Unix derivatives as well as FreeBSD or Mac OS X and for Microsoft Windows . There are also clients for iOS and Android. Quassel is the standard IRC client under Kubuntu version 9.04 or higher (“Jaunty Jackalope”). It uses the Qt4 or Qt5 class library .
architecture
Quassel based on the client-server model : The core application can in an increasingly using the Internet connected servers are running, one or more clients connect to the core. This way, the connection to the IRC can be maintained even if the clients are shut down. Models for this functionality were the combination of screen and WeeChat or partly IRC bouncer .
There is also a variant available that combines core and client in one program - this behaves like a "normal" IRC client, that is, no external core has to be managed, for example.
Functions
Quassel enables simultaneous connection to several IRC servers. Different identities can be created for the administration of nicknames, reasons for absence etc.
To make it easier to enter frequently used commands, it is possible to create "aliases".
Extended functions are the "chat monitor", in which the conversations of a (configurable) selection of channels are displayed and a website preview for URLs in the conversation.
course
Quassel saves the conversation in a SQLite or PostgreSQL database. When scrolling up the chat window, older sections of the history are automatically loaded. In this way, seamless viewing of the previous conversation is possible.
However, the history cannot be exported directly yet; Likewise, there is currently no easy way to search past conversations.
safety
The connection between the client and the core can be encrypted using SSL .
