Quax - Association for the promotion of historical aircraft
Quax - Association for the Promotion of Historical Aircraft V. is a non-profit association that restores and operates historical aircraft. The association with around 700 members (2019) was founded in Hamm in 2006 . Its namesake is the main character from the movie Quax the breakaway pilot .
The Quax-Verein has set itself the goal of getting the vintage aircraft into airworthy condition, which can take years for complex projects. The association is represented nationwide with several stations. In addition to the association's headquarters at Paderborn-Lippstadt Airport , the association also operates stations at nine other airports.
The airplanes are the most important field of activity in the club. The club aircraft can be flown by members after instruction.
history
The association was founded in 2006. In the same year, the first club aircraft , a De Havilland Canada DHC-1 Chipmunk (D-EPAK) was purchased. A year later, the Quax had over 100 members, including around 20 active pilots. Two gliders were added to the Chipmunk . In 2008 the first “mothballing”, ie the beginning of the new flying season, took place at the bee farm in Brandenburg . The Quax hangar in Paderborn-Lippstadt was built in 2010, and the hangar days took place there for the first time in 2014. In 2017 the association took over the airfield bee farm. In 2018 the association took part in the International Aerospace Exhibition in Berlin .

Over the years the club's fleet has grown to 20 aircraft (2019). Some of the aircraft are owned by the association, others are owned by private individuals or owner communities and are operated by the association.
