Quebracho is a city in western Uruguay .

geography

It is located in the 11th sector of the Paysandú department a few kilometers north of Lorenzo Geyres and northwest of Queguayar in the Cuchilla San José . To the north rises near Quebracho with the Arroyo del Sauce, a left-hand tributary of the Arroyo Guaviyú, which runs a few kilometers to the north . The Termas de Guaviyú are located around 12 kilometers to the north .

history

On October 15, 1963, Quebracho was given the status of " villa " by Law No. 13.167 .

description

Quebracho functions as a service center in which, in addition to growing cereals and citrus fruits, diversified extensive cattle breeding and forestry predominate.

The Salto - Paso de los Toros railway line runs through Quebracho and has its kilometer point 526 here. Ruta 3 runs four kilometers to the east .

tourism

27 kilometers from Quebracho are the ruins of the former salt meat factory Saladero Guaviyú built in 1869, a relic from Quebracho's heyday. The former Estancia Guaviyú , which houses today's Escuela Agraria , is also located in the local area.
