Queen Carola Harbor ( called Queen Karolahafen or Carolahafen in German colonial times ) is a bay in the northwest of the island of Buka in the autonomous region of Bougainville in Papua New Guinea .

The western boundary of the bay is formed by the three small islands Entrance Island , Hetau Island and Pororan Island . Within the harbor are the islands of Harbor Island , Kulu Island , Monum Island and Pasu Island .

Naming

In January 1883 the imperial smooth-deck corvette SMS Carola sailed to Buka in search of a missing French expedition, but could not find the discoverer. The ship stayed in Buka from January 20 to 24 and used the previously unknown natural harbor, which was named in honor of the ship's namesake Carola von Wasa-Holstein-Gottorp , the then (and last) Queen of Saxony , “Queen Karolahafen “(English Queen Carola Harbor) was named.
