Queersicht one is LGBTI - Film Festival in Bern . His name is a play on the English adjective queer .

History of the festival

Models of queer vision were the film series Eine Liebe der Nacht im Kellerkino (1979), a film series on the topic of AIDS (1991), the so-called gay festivals held in the Bernese alternative cultural center Reitschule in the mid-1990s , as well as the two lesbian-gay cultural weeks Stonewall and Uferlos .

Queersicht was founded in 1996 by filmmaker Veronika Minder and activist Patrik Martinez. The first edition of Queersicht was held in November 1997. Since then, the festival has taken place annually and is organized entirely on a voluntary basis. The Pink Glasses Prize was awarded for the best short film from the start .

In 2003 a panel discussion took place with the filmmaker Rosa von Praunheim , the director of the Federal Office for Culture at the time, David Streiff, and the critic Manuela Kay . In 2006 there was a retrospective on the director Sébastien Lifshitz . In the same year Rose Troche was also a guest. The director, producer and screenwriter of the lesbian TV series The L Word - When Women Love Women told us about everyday production.

The festival sees itself as a socially critical, politically commentary and cosmopolitan event by consciously promoting high-quality feature and documentary films from outside Europe and North America. Around twenty (2000) to fifty (2006) feature-length and short films are shown each year, many of which are Swiss premieres. The short films are grouped into short film blocks, in which the audience as a jury selects the best short film. Each edition of the festival also includes a lounge and a party. This took place until 2007 in the riding school, since 2008 in the program / gym. In addition, gala concerts, panel discussions and other supporting events are held every year.

Five cinemas are currently shown on the second weekend in November and around 3000 viewers are counted. The program booklet and, if the subtitles are bilingual written German and French, which the festival and film fans from the nearby Romandie attracts.
