Questacon (also known as the National Science and Technology Center ) is a science and technology museum in the Australian capital of Canberra , on the south bank of Lake Burley Griffin . More than 200 interactive exhibits can be viewed.

The Questacon building was a gift from Japan to mark Australia's bicentenary and opened on November 23, 1988 . The museum is managed by the Ministry of Education and Science. The museum has over 300,000 visitors annually.

The center is divided into seven galleries; these are:

  1. Sports Quest with some interesting physical challenges
  2. Sideshow is about science in a circus
  3. MiniQ is an exhibition for children up to 6 years
  4. Wavelength deals with light and sound; you can see polarized light , Fresnel lenses and holograms
  5. Awesome Earth deals with natural disasters and geology ; The exhibits include a Tesla transformer and an earthquake simulator
  6. Toys , the history of toys and the science behind them
  7. Strike a Chord , the science of music ; you can see a light harp and an " air guitar " (a broom with sensors)

In addition to the permanent staff, the museum is looked after by around 60 volunteers who present smaller temporary exhibitions. The center has three theaters in which the museum's own theater group The Excited Particles performs in family performances. The troop also hosts roundtable discussions on science in general and current events.
