The Quinburk (German Quinburg ) is the ruin of a rock castle , which was probably originally a small watch castle . Their remains are in the forest not far from the forester's lodge Drakov near the falcon cliffs above Černá Opava at an altitude of 896 m northeast of Vrbno pod Pradědem .

history

The castle was probably built at the end of the 13th century and fell under the local episcopal property. Few remains of the original castle wall have been preserved. The story is unclear due to a lack of sources. In the 14th century a customs house was built below the castle.

Castle description

Most of the castle is located on two boulders. Closer to the entrance (to the west) is a rock with a palace-like residential tower . The building had an irregular floor plan and the south wall was designed to be convex. The inner part could be divided into three smaller rooms. The building with 2.3 to 2.85 m thick walls measured 20 by 12 m. On the rock further from the entrance (to the east) there was a tower less than three stories. The dimensions were about 6 by 5.5 m and the wall thickness was about 2 m. The outer bailey was built around the wooden building and was surrounded by partially walled fortifications, on the east side of which there are only a few remains. Between the palace and the tower was a small courtyard with a 2.2 m thick wall. Until 1888 there were still visible remains of a gate accessible via a bridge. There was probably a cistern in the courtyard . The castle could contain some of the surrounding rocks. The castle was built on mortar. There is no signposted hiking trail to the castle, but it is marked on maps.
