The military diploma of July 2, 133 AD ( CIL 16, 76 )

Quintus Iunius Rusticus was a 2nd century Roman politician and senator .

Rusticus was the son of Quintus Junius Arulenus Rusticus , who had been a suffect consul in 92 and finally fell victim to the persecution of the Stoics under Emperor Domitian . Like his father, he was a stoic. Through military diplomas , e.g. Some of them are dated July 2, 133, it is documented that he was 133 suffect consul with Quintus Flavius Tertullus ; the two presumably held this office from July 1st to September 30th. The consuls couple is also listed in an inscription. As a teacher and friend of Emperor Marcus Aurelius , Rusticus received a proper consulate in 162 . Probably in the same year he was appointed city prefect and remained so until 167 or 168. During his tenure, the martyrdom of Justin took place in 165 .
