history

Qurba already existed in Punic times. The current name is derived from the Roman name Curubis .

Curubis was in the Roman province of Africa proconsularis , which in addition to what is now Tunisia, also included parts of northern Algeria. The city was founded in 46 BC. Built into a fortress by two generals of Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus , Publius Attius Varus and Gaius Considius Longus . Gaius Iulius Caesar raised them to the municipality with the name Colonia Julia Curubis. In 257 AD, Cyprian of Carthage was interned there during the persecution of Christians under Emperor Valerian , and later brought to Carthage , where he was executed. Only a few cisterns and remains of an aqueduct have survived from ancient Curubis .
