Réal Ménard

Réal Ménard (born May 13, 1962 in Montreal , Québec ) is a Canadian politician and former member of the Lower House of Canada.

Ménard is a member of the Bloc Québécois and came out as the second member of the Canadian parliament .

After his school education, Ménard studied politics and achieved a bachelor's and master's degree in political science. He stood in the 1984 general election for the Parti nationaliste du Québec and lost. It was not until the 1993 general election that he succeeded in entering the Canadian lower house as a representative of the newly founded Bloc Québécois. In the following elections in 1997, 2000, 2004 and 2006 he was re-elected for the constituency of Hochelaga . Ménard was particularly active in parliament for health policy as well as immigration and citizenship.

In June 2009, Ménard resigned as a Member of the House of Commons. For the Montreal local party Vision Montréal , he ran in the municipal elections and was elected mayor of the district of Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve on November 1, 2009 .
