The Río Salado (German salt river ), also Río Salado del Sur (German southern salt river ), is a 700 km long river in Argentina that runs south of Buenos Aires and drains into the Bahía de Samborombón at the mouth of the Río de la Plata .

The Río Salado arises as an outflow from the Laguna El Chañar salt lake south of Teodelina . From there it first flows through Lake Mar Chiquita and Laguna de Gomez. It then flows in a south-easterly direction past the cities of Junín , Roque Pérez and General Belgrano to finally flow into the Bahía de Samborombón . In the course of the strongly meandering Río Salado there are numerous salt lakes, which it either flows through directly or whose short drains flow into it depending on the water level.

The addition del Sur is occasionally used to distinguish the Río Salado from the tributary of the same name further north of the Río Paraná .
