Career

High school and college soccer

John Lesko was born on September 21, 1988 to Andrew and Karen Lesko in the city of Richland, Washington State. He started his football career at an early age and was a member of the school's football team during his high school years. At Richland High School, which a few years earlier had also been attended by the later American record national soccer player Hope Solo , Lesko was already in action as a central defender. As such, he scored four goals during his time with the Richlands Bombers , the name of the high school's sports department, and also contributed two hits. Because of his achievements, he was unanimously selected for the First Team Big 9 Conference selection. He helped his team win the Washington State Championship three times in his four high school years .

In 2006 he began studying at the University of South Carolina Aiken , where he chose Mathematics / Computer Science as a major . In parallel to his studies, he also appeared as a member of the men's soccer team for the USC Aiken Pacers university sports department . In his freshman year, Lesko made 14 appearances, nine of which he was on the field from the start. In the following sophomore year 2007, the tall defensive player already made 18 championship appearances, 13 of which he started from the start of the game. In addition to an increased number of shots, he also succeeded in his first assists in college football this year. In the following junior year 2008, Lesko was the only player in the pacer's squad, who was used in all 17 championship games as a regular from the start by coach Ike Ofoje . Furthermore, he got his first two goals for the USC Aiken Pacers this year, and was honored several times in and after this game year.

His individual successes this year include the election of the team's Most Valuable Player , as well as the election to the PBC All Conference Team and the All Tournament Team . His best performance of the season, however, came in his senior year 2009 when he contributed three goals and two assists in 15 league appearances (14 starts from the start) as team captain . After being elected to the PBC Preseason All Conference Team in the preparation for the season , he made it into the PBC All Conference selection again this year and was also in the Daktronics All Region Second -Team represented.

First appearances in men's football and a short professional career

During the free time at the university, Lesko had his first appearances in men's football in 2008 when he joined the Panama City Pirates with play in the fourth-rate USL Premier Development League . In the first season of the franchise founded last year, the central defender played ten championship games before returning to university.

After his potential as a professional player during the Pro Soccer Combines 2010 , where he was tested by Jesse Myers from the Richmond Kickers , Lesko was one of the first players in March 2010 to sign up for the new AC St. Louis franchise in the short-lived USSF Division 2 Professional League was signed. He then made his professional debut on April 10, 2010 in the first official game of AC St. Louis, when he was used in the 0-2 defeat against the Carolina RailHawks by coach Claude Anelka from the start and for the full game. Then it took a month before the defensive player came to his next league assignment and again just under two months before he brought on regular appearances in the USSF Division 2 Professional League. Nevertheless, he could not assert himself as a regular and was substituted six times once and twice in the twelve championship games that he played in this game year.

In addition to the sporting failure - the season ended in the conference as well as in the summarized overall table in penultimate place - there were also financial difficulties that forced the franchise to dissolve after only one completed season. Shortly before that, the women's soccer franchise Saint Louis Athletica operated next to it had already been dissolved. In addition, the league was dissolved after only one year of play. Lesko decided against a further career as a football player and instead switched to the private sector, while doing his degrees on the side.

Life after a career as a professional athlete

From 2012 he studied again at the University of South Carolina , which he graduated in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering. At the same time, he worked for Southern Nuclear , which operates the three nuclear power plants in Farley , Hatch and Vogtle , from August to December 2012 and from May to August 2013 as a technical employee. He then moved to Allied Air Enterprises in West Columbia , South Carolina , in May 2014 , where he was active until July 2014. After receiving his bachelor's degree, he joined Enercon Services in September 2014 , where he worked as a design and development engineer, as he did at Allied Air . After almost two years, he found a position at GE Powers , a subsidiary of General Electric (GE). From August 2016 to October 2018 he was responsible for the global monitoring of General Electric's gas and steam turbine fleet as a data analyst. In October 2018 he was promoted to Senior Data Scientist for the company.
