Röchling bank

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Röchling bank (Gebr. Röchling Bank) was a credit institute in Saarland .

history

It was first established in 1855 as the Schmidtborn and Röchling brothers' business and banking house. This company was founded in 1822 as the trading house Schmidtborn and Gebr. Röchling by Johann Carl Schmidtborn and his four cousins, the Röchling brothers - Theodor (1823–1885), Ernst (1825–1877), Karl (1827–1910) and Friedrich (1833–1892 ) - built. The Gebr. Röchling Bank emerged from this trading house in 1858. Business areas were trading in bills of exchange and shares . From 1930 the banking business of the group bank was run under the company Gebrüder Röchling & Co. KG. In Switzerland, a subsidiary operated under the name Röchling & Cie. Bank AG, Basel . This institute, later run as a branch of Röchling Bank, was liquidated on May 23, 1949.

After the Second World War , the Röchling Group was placed under French administration. The Röchling Bank was replaced in 1947 by the Banque Nationale pour le Commerce et l'Industrie. In 1957 Röchling Bank returned to the Saar. The Röchling Group was then returned to its owners. On October 1, 1966, the bank inaugurated its new building in Saarbrücken. When the state-owned Saarbrücker Zeitung was sought to be privatized in 1969 , Gebr. Röchling Bank was to become shareholders of the newspaper alongside other credit institutions. The Saarland Justice Minister Alois Becker was of the opinion that the banks "represent the Saarland population like no one else". However, this proposal was rejected and instead the Society for Citizenship Education Saar GmbH was founded, which has since held a 26 percent stake in the newspaper.

At the same time as the steel crisis of the 1970s, the owners withdrew from the company. In 1978 the descendants of the Röchlings parted from the banking business. The Bayerische Vereinsbank , with which the Röchling bank merged in 1982, was found to expand the business .
