Claudia Acerenza

Claudia Acerenza , full name Claudia Acerenza Maríez , (born January 15, 1966 ) is a former Uruguayan athlete .

Career

The 1.60 meter tall Acerenza from the Florida Department was active in the running disciplines on the sprint courses. She won silver in the 1985 South American Athletics Junior Championships over 200 meters in front of her third-placed sister Soledad Acerenza .

She took part in the 1986 South American Games. There she won the gold medal with the 4-by-100-meter relay and the 4-by-400-meter relay . In the individual competitions, she won silver over 100 meters and 200 meters.

She was also a member of the squad at the 1987 Pan American Games in Indianapolis . At the 1987 Games, she was 9th over 200 meters and 6th with the 4 x 400 meter relay.

She was a member of the Uruguayan squad at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul . In the games she competed over 100 meters and 200 meters, but failed in each case in the run-up. She also took part in the South American Games in 1990. In this event in Peru, she successfully defended the gold medals of the South American Games four years earlier with the two national relays over 100 meters and 400 meters. She also won three silver medals in the individual competitions over 100 meters, 200 meters and 400 meters. In 1991 she finished 11th at the Pan American Games in Havana in 1991 over 200 meters. Over 400 meters, she was 10th there and with the 4 x 400 meter relay she was 6th.

At the World Athletics Championships in 1987 and 1991 , and at the World Indoor Athletics Championships in 1989 and 1991 , she did not get beyond a start in the heats again. In 1994 she was called for the third time in the squad for the South American Games. She also took part in the Ibero-American Championships in 1986 , 1988 , 1990 , 1992 and 1994 .

Even today (as of June 15, 2015), Acerenza still holds the Uruguayan national records on the 100 and 200 meter distances . Her best marks on the 400-meter route in the hall, as well as her U-20 record over 200 meters, were still not undercut at national level. She is also the co-owner of the current national records with the 4 x 100 meter relay (at the Ibero-American Championships in Seville in 1992 ) and the 4 x 400 meter relay, for which she was jointly responsible as a member of the national relay.
