Johann Carl Schmidtborn

Johann Carl Schmidtborn (born December 1, 1794 in St. Johann , † October 7, 1877 in Saarbrücken ) was a German businessman, politician and mayor of Saarbrücken.

Life

His father was the businessman Georg Philipp Schmidtborn (1745–1809), his mother Maria Karoline (1768–1845) geb. Röchling.

In 1813 and 1814, Carl Schmidtborn served in the Napoleonic Garde d'Honneur in the Napoleonic Wars . In 1814 he was wounded in Mainz .

After the end of the war, Schmidtborn became a business partner of Georg Schmidtborn , a commercial councilor based in Frankfurt am Main , in 1817 . In 1836 he inherited shares in the family coal trade from his uncle Friedrich Ludwig Röchling together with his four sons and his sister. In 1855 he founded the business and banking house Schmidtborn & Gebrüder Röchling with the Röchlings .

Political career

From 1826 to 1837 he was a member of the Rhenish Provincial Landtag . On August 14, 1844 he became a member of the Saarbrücken City Council on July 21, the aldermen elected in Saarbrücken. Ten years later he was confirmed in this office. On September 28, 1857 he was appointed first alderman. On October 25, 1862 he was elected mayor of the city and on December 27, 1862 he was introduced to his office. On January 27, 1871, he resigned from his office for reasons of age.
