Wilhelm Meyer (Mayor)

Wilhelm Meyer (born January 29, 1835 in Manderscheid ; born Johann Peter Wilhelm Meyer ; † March 21, 1900 in Malstatt ) was Mayor of Malstatt- Burbach (1866–1900).

Life

His father was Franz Georg Jakob Meyer, mayor of his place of birth, nothing is known about his mother. He married Maria geb. Müller (1850–1929) from Saarlouis , the marriage resulted in their son Wilhelm (1871–1920).

On November 23, 1864 he was appointed civil supernumerar (comparable to a civil servant candidate in today's time) with the government of Trier , he remained so until November 3, 1866. At this time, Malstatt was in personal union with the old Saarbrücken resident Mayorry of the Prussian Rhine Province administered. The incumbent mayor Johann Carl Schmidtborn asked for partial release from his official business and for the spinning off of the rapidly growing Malstatt and economically up-and-coming Burbach as an independent municipality. His request was granted on October 17, 1866. Subsequently, an independent administration was constituted in Malstatt, which on November 7th, 1866 passed the municipal council resolution to hire a salaried mayor. On November 17, 1866, Meyer's appointment as provisional mayor followed by the Trier district government at the request of the municipal council, his inauguration on November 30, 1866, and his final appointment on July 24, 1867. After the introduction of Rhenish order Malstatt received further local self-government rights May 3, 1875 What Meyer on June 3, 1875 his appointment meant in office and appointment as mayor for life. On March 1, 1900 Meyer announced his resignation to the city council after almost 34 years in office, but he himself did not live to see the day of his planned release on October 1 of that year.

Wilhelm Meyer was buried in an honorary grave in the old Malstatter cemetery .
