Römerberg (oil field)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Römerberg oil field is an oil field near the city of Speyer . The oil field was unexpectedly encountered in 2003 when a geothermal well was being drilled. After a geophysical survey, development of the field began in 2008. The field is operated by Neptune Energy .

location

The oil field is located in the north of the city of Speyer, Rhineland-Palatinate. The oil field is drilled from two drilling sites and oil is extracted.

Deposit

The oil is in a layer of red sandstone which was deposited here 251–243 million years ago. The storage layers are located at a depth of about 2200 meters below the surface.

advancement

In 2016, Römerberg was the third largest oil field in Germany. Only the Mittelplate oil field in the North Sea and Rühle in the Emsland had a larger production volume.
