The von Römerstal family (French de Rambévaux, de Rambeval ) was a prince-bishop of Basle ministerial dynasty , which became extinct in 1730 in the male line.

The Römerstal were servants of the Bishop of Basel , possibly originally from Alsace . The servant Heinrich appears first in the sources in 1379. He was the fiefdom of the Bishop of Basel. His son Immer von Römerstal settled in Biel , received citizenship there in 1439 and, with interruptions, served as Prince-Bishop Meier. Always son Simon was Meier von Biel and was appointed to the city council of Bern . Benedikt von Römerstal († 1521), was also a member of the Bernese Grand Council, was mayor of Burgdorf, governor of Erlach and from 1491 to 1508 Meier of Biel. Georg von Römerstal († 1558), illegitimate son of Benedict, founded the Bern branch of the family. He was canon, member of the Grand Council and governor of Gottstatt .

Simon von Römerstal, another son of Benedict, founded the Jura family branch. His descendants were clergymen or officials of the Prince-Bishop of Basel, the dukes of Bavaria and Austria.
