Gottstatt Monastery

The Gottstatt Monastery is a former Premonstratensian in the municipality Orpund in the canton of Bern , Switzerland .

It was created in 1255 by Count Rudolf I von Neuenburg-Nidau. An attempt to build a monastery had previously failed in 1247.

The name of the monastery appears in the earliest historical sources in Latin as Locum Dei (accusative), first in German in 1290 as Gotstat .

In 1528 the monastery was closed during the Reformation and in 1803 it was sold to private customers. Since 1965, the Reformed parish has gradually acquired sections of the former monastery. Georg Simon Ohm taught here for a while .
