The Office Aarburg was from 1416 a bailiwick in the city and Republic of Berne in Switzerland . The city of Bern conquered Aargau from 1415, and around 1416 the Bernese immediately appointed their own bailiffs. In 1667, because of the fortress built there, the name of a commandant was added to them, which the then Vogt, Franz Wyss , was the first to wear.
At the beginning, these bailiffs administered the entire Bernese Aargau . Only later, when Bern pushed back the rights of the nobility and clergy more and more, were other bailiwicks added: Lenzburg (1442), Schenkenberg (1460), Biberstein (1499), Zofingen (1528), Königsfelden (1528) and Kasteln (1732). The term of office of the bailiff from the Bern patriciate was six years each.
