The area of the bailiwick of the same belonged partly to the Order of St. John , and partly to the Königsfelden monastery . In 1535 Bern took Biberstein Castle after long reluctance from the Catholic towns and made it the seat of a governor's office, which included the villages of Biberstein , Küttigen and Erlinsbach . Instead of the Komturen , 51 Bernese Obervögte ruled the office in succession.
