Köniz Castle

The Köniz Castle is a castle in the municipality of Köniz in the canton of Bern .

history

The building was built at the beginning of the 11th century as a walled monastery building for the Augustinian canons .

From 1226 the castle was owned by the Teutonic Order until the Commandery was abolished . Around 1261 a knight's house and the inner courtyard were built. Other buildings were added in the 14th and 15th centuries. In 1610 the main building was rebuilt in the post-Gothic style. In 1729 the city ​​of Bern acquired the castle and used it as a bailiff until the French invasion in 1798 .

In the 18th century the entire facility was completely renewed. The west wing has served as a rectory since 1825 and the rest of the building has been the parish center since 2000.
