Gümligen Castle (2011)

The Castle Gümligen is a castle in the town of Muri bei Bern in the canton of Bern .

It was probably built between 1736 and 1739 under the architect Albrecht Stürler for the son of the same name of the postal entrepreneur Beat Fischer and is one of the highest quality Bernese country houses of the 18th century.

Since the costly construction activities finally exceeded Fischer's financial means, he had to sell the magnificent palace to Samuel Tillier in 1742, who exchanged it with Emanuel Karl Viktor Stürler in 1764. His widow sold the country estate to her son-in-law Friedrich Heinrich von Stürler in 1788 . After that, the house remained in the von Tscharner family until it was sold to the entrepreneur Willy Michel in 2000 , who had it carefully renovated.

The castle was of particular importance during the Second World War , when it served as the headquarters of General Henri Guisan from 1939 to 1941 .
