The thunstetten castle is a country castle in Thunstetten in the Bernese Oberaargau .

It was built from 1713 to 1715 by the Bernese builder Abraham Jenner according to plans by the Parisian architect Joseph Abeille for Hieronymus von Erlach as a three-wing complex and consists of a single-storey mansion above a mighty vaulted cellar with two two-storey wing wings. They form the three sides of a courtyard, which is closed on the fourth side by a roofed wall with a vaulted lattice portal.

On the ceiling and the inner wall of the central ballroom as well as on the ceilings of the two side cabinets are paintings by Johannes Brandenberg (1661–1729) from Zug , created in 1715, depicting the heroic deeds of Hieronymus von Erlach, his return to a peaceful one, in a mythologically exaggerated way Depicting country life and family fame.

In 1746 Hieronymus Thunstetten sold, then built the Hindelbank Castle and the Erlacherhof in the city ​​of Bern . After various owners, it came to the Le Grand family from Langenthal for about a hundred years , who sold it to the Thunstetten Castle Foundation in 1970 .

Today, exhibitions and seminars take place in Thunstetten Castle, and it is rented out for private parties.
